Crier ("we", "our", or "the app") is a local events aggregator for Birmingham, Alabama, operated by Code Boys LLC. We are committed to protecting your privacy and to being honest about how Crier works.
Crier collects minimal data to provide our service:
Device Identifier: A randomly generated anonymous ID, tied to your app install, used to remember your saved events and preferences and — for giveaways — to help enforce one entry per person and detect duplicate entries. This ID is not linked to your personal identity.
Event Interactions: Which events you view and save, to provide personalized features and improve our service.
Usage Analytics: Anonymous aggregate data about app usage to improve the user experience.
Email (only if you choose): We do not collect your email for general use of the app. If you choose to enter a ticket giveaway, you provide your email address so we can run the giveaway and contact you if you win. Separately and optionally, you can opt in to receive Crier email updates. (See "Ticket Giveaways & Email Updates" below.)
Photos (optional): If you add a photo to a collectible ticket stub, that photo is uploaded and stored securely on our servers. Photos are entirely optional and are only collected when you choose to add one to your own stub.
Location (only while using the app): When you check in to collect a ticket stub, we use your device's location at that moment to verify you're at the venue. We never track your location in the background.
Apple Music Library (only if you connect it): If you choose to connect Apple Music, we read the names of artists in your library to match you with upcoming Birmingham events. We only access artist names — never your playback history, playlists, or listening habits. You can disconnect at any time.
Push Notification Token (only if you allow notifications): If you enable notifications, we store your device's push token so we can send you event alerts, such as when artists you like have upcoming shows.
We never sell your personal information. Nothing that identifies you — your email, your device ID, or your individual activity — is ever sold or shared with anyone for their own marketing.
Crier helps venues understand interest in their events, and offering these insights is part of how Crier sustains itself. We provide venues with aggregate, anonymized analytics — for example, how many people viewed, saved, or clicked through to an event, and overall demand trends across the Crier audience. This is always aggregate and never identifies you: a venue sees totals like "234 people viewed this event," never who you are or what you personally did. (One narrow exception, with notice: if you win a giveaway, your name is shared with that venue's box office so you can claim your prize — venues never receive the list of who entered.)
When you enter a ticket giveaway in the app, we collect the email address you provide and your per-install device identifier, and we record your confirmation that you are 18 or older and an Alabama resident. We use the device identifier to help enforce our one-entry-per-person rule and detect duplicate or fraudulent entries. No purchase, payment, rating, review, follow, or share is ever required to enter.
We use your entry email and device identifier only to run the giveaway: to confirm eligibility, limit entries, conduct the random drawing, and — if you win — to notify you privately by email (and, where available, an in-app notification) and arrange for you to claim your tickets. We do not announce winners publicly, and we will not use your name or image for advertising without your separate, voluntary consent. If you win, we share with the venue providing the tickets only what its box office needs to release your prize — typically your name, so it can be matched to your photo ID at pickup. We never give the venue the list of people who entered.
Email updates are separate and optional. Entering a giveaway does not subscribe you to marketing or newsletter email. We will send you Crier email updates only if you separately turn on the opt-in, which is off by default and is never required to enter or win. You can unsubscribe at any time using the one-click link in any update email; we'll stop within ten (10) business days, and unsubscribing is free. Every update email identifies Crier honestly and includes our mailing address: Code Boys LLC, 1305 31st Street North, Birmingham, AL 35234.
Your saved events, preferences, any ticket-stub photos, and any giveaway entry information are stored securely on our servers using your anonymous device ID and (for giveaways) your email. We do not sell or share information that identifies you. We do provide venues with aggregate, anonymized analytics about engagement with their events (see "Aggregate Analytics for Venues"), which never identifies you individually. A photo you add to a stub is only viewable by others if you choose to share that stub's link.
Crier uses the following third-party services:
Crier displays event information from various Birmingham venues. When you tap an event link, you may be directed to the venue's website, which has its own privacy policy. If you share a ticket stub to a social app (like Instagram), the image is sent to that app at your request and is governed by that app's privacy policy; Crier receives no personal data back from Meta. If you win a giveaway, the venue providing the tickets receives only the limited information needed to release your prize at the box office.
We retain your anonymous interaction data for as long as you use the app, and you can clear your saved events at any time in the app. We keep giveaway entry information (your email and entry record) only as long as needed to run the giveaway and for our ordinary records. You can ask us to delete any data you've provided (including a giveaway entry or a stub photo) at any time by contacting us at the email below, and we'll honor reasonable requests.
Crier is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Ticket giveaways are open only to entrants who are 18 or older.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy in the app.
